Earth Stories - Part 5 (The Grand Finale)

I can't display the full quilt until it has premiered at the Michigan State University Museum next month, where it will be on display until November 30th, and then on to the University of Central Missouri Gallery of Art and Design from January 19 - February 28, 2015.  But I can tell you that the linen panels were stitched to painted canvas panels, providing a frame for each section.

But we weren't done yet ... there was still the matter of the "poster" or lead-in piece, which had to be precisely 12" wide by 14" tall.  Naturally, I selected a photo I had taken of George Archibald for my subject.

I painted a section of canvas in a palette similar to what I had used in the quadriptych.

So for now, you just have to imagine what the cheesecloth looks like after being stitched to the background.

Both pieces will be published here in their entirety on May 11th.

But stay in touch ... I am packing my bags for the 25th anniversary conference in Washington DC and will be posting pics and stories starting next Tuesday.
